We covered the first 4 chapters of Daniel last week. I hope you love Danny’s book as much as I do! He has a much different style and message than Ike, Jerry and Zeke. He’s not giving them warning from God, but great personal stories of faith, courage and character.
Chapter 1 – Danny & his friends refused to eat King Neb’s defiled food and went on a veggie and water diet and came out stronger for it. The main point is more about character and obedience than food. I referred to The Daniel Plan by Rick Warren and The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory. These are two healthy eating plans that focus not only on food but faith.
Chapter 2 – King Nebuchadnezzar has a vision and calls in all his wise guys and none can tell him the dream or the interpretation. King Neb wants them all executed. Daniel asks for an audience with the king and he is able to tell him the dream and the interpretation. The dream was of a great statue that represented King Neb’s empire and the empires that are to follow. There was even a Messianic prophecy in there as the stone that points ahead to Jesus.
Chapter 3 – I LOVE this chapter! What a great TRUE story of faith, courage and character! Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refuse to bow and worship King Neb’s big statue and get thrown into the fiery furnace. They did the right thing, but still had to go through this fiery trial. God was right there with them! It blew King Neb’s mind when he looked in the furnace and saw four instead of three! He called them out and instead of getting fired, they got promoted. 🙂
God will be with you when you go through trials in this life. (Check out these verses: Isaiah 43:1-2; James 1:2-4; 1 Peter 4:12-13.) God is sovereign and there is a purpose in everything He does.
Chapter 4 – In this chapter, King Nebuchadnezzar gives his testimony in the form of a public decree. It includes another vision by King Neb and another interpretation by Daniel.
Danny’s AMAZINGRACE continues this week with chapters 5-8: The handwriting on the wall, Daniel in the Lion’s Den, and major prophetic visions. Very exciting and interesting material that you do NOT want to miss!
“My only aim is to finish the race and complete the task given me by the Lord Jesus–the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Acts 20:24
